The western portion of Kilmacud sits in the suburban corridor between Dundrum and Stillorgan, with residential estates dating from several decades of the twentieth century. The area benefits from proximity to Dundrum Town Centre and the Luas Green Line, while retaining the quieter character of its tree-lined residential streets. Kilmacud Crokes GAA club, one of south Dublin's largest, provides a strong community focal point for the wider area.
